GURS Masterclass 2026

Dr Anastasia Frost, MBChB, MSc is a Specialty Doctor in Reconstructive Urology at University College London Hospitals, with a particular interest in surgical education, practical skills training and safe urethral catheterisation.

Dr Frost has contributed to reconstructive urology through clinical research, peer-reviewed publications, practical skills education and competency-based training. She has co-authored work on bulbar urethroplasty, Cowper’s duct pathology, post-prostatectomy bladder-neck changes, artificial urinary sphincter surgery and penile urethral reconstruction, and in 2026 was first author of the SAFE randomised controlled trial evaluating catheterisation after urethral lengthening. Her MSc research focused on long-term follow-up of a cystoplasty cohort.

She plays a central role in the delivery of the GURS-Masterclass, combining clinical experience with expertise in audiovisual production, online event delivery and technical coordination of live and semi-live surgical teaching. She has also contributed to the development of AUCA educational content and competency-based practical skills training.

Dr Clare Allen, MBBS is a Consultant Uro-Radiologist and Uro-Radiology Lead at University College London Hospitals, with specialist expertise in complex reconstructive urological imaging and prostate MRI.

She is a core member of the UCLH reconstructive urology multidisciplinary team, providing specialist imaging input for patients with complex urethral and lower urinary tract pathology and supporting clinical and operative decision-making.

Dr Allen is also internationally recognised for her work in prostate MRI. She has been closely involved in the development of multiparametric MRI for prostate cancer since 2000, contributed to the establishment of reporting standards and imaging-quality frameworks, and was lead radiologist on the PROMIS study.

Her work bridges highly specialised clinical imaging, multidisciplinary urological decision-making and research into the quality and diagnostic performance of prostate MRI.

Daniela Andrich, MD, MSc, FRCS (Urol) is a Consultant Reconstructive Urological Surgeon at University College London Hospitals and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London.

She is internationally recognised for her expertise in reconstructive urology, particularly urethral reconstruction and the management of complex iatrogenic urological injury, including urinary incontinence, urinary fistulae and bladder-neck contractures following prostate cancer treatment or pelvic radiotherapy. Her clinical and academic interests also include the prevention of catheter-related urethral injury.

She served as President of the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) from 2015 to 2016 and, in 2007, founded the annual GURS-Masterclass in Genitourethral Reconstructive Surgery, which she continues to direct.

She is also Founder and CEO of Urethrotech Ltd, which developed and commercialised the Urethral Catheterisation Device (UCD®), designed to make difficult male catheterisation safer, taking a patented medical device from concept through regulatory approval and commercialisation across multiple major markets.

Education and patient safety have been longstanding themes throughout her career. In 2020, she founded the Advanced Urinary Catheterisation Academy (AUCA) to develop scalable training in urethral catheterisation and structured escalation for difficult catheterisation. From its inception, AUCA has also hosted the annual GURS-Masterclass, providing a sustainable independent platform for its delivery and international reach.

Felix Campos-Juanatey, MD, PhD, MScRes, FEBU is an attending Urologist at Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital in Santander, Spain, and Associate Professor at the Medical School of the University of Cantabria.

He has subspecialty expertise in reconstructive urology, andrology and robotic surgery, with particular interests in urethral reconstruction, oral graft urethroplasty and urologic trauma. He undertook additional specialist training in reconstructive urology at University College London Hospitals.

Dr Campos-Juanatey has a strong interest in evidence-based practice and guideline development. He serves on the EAU Guidelines Office panels for Urethral Strictures and Urological Trauma and holds leadership roles within ESGURS and the Reconstructive Urology Group of the Spanish Urological Association.

Jai Eswara, MD is Chair of Urology at Tufts University School of Medicine and a specialist in urologic trauma, reconstructive urology and academic medicine.

He graduated from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology programme at Harvard Medical School and subsequently completed fellowship training in Urologic Trauma and Reconstruction at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis.

Dr Eswara’s work combines complex genitourinary reconstruction with surgical innovation, research and medical education. As Chair of Urology at Tufts, he has a particular interest in developing academic urology programmes, expanding residency training, strengthening mentorship and research opportunities, and building multidisciplinary collaboration across urology, urogynecology and colorectal surgery.

Keith F. Rourke, MD, FRCSC is Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine and Co-Director of the Reconstructive Urology Fellowship Program.

He specialises in genitourinary reconstruction, complex urethral and lower urinary tract surgery, complications following prostate cancer treatment and surgery for male sexual dysfunction.

Dr Rourke has a longstanding interest in surgical education and has held numerous leadership roles in undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship training, including residency programme director, surgical clerkship coordinator, fellowship director and faculty course coordinator. He has received more than 25 teaching awards.

He is Immediate Past-President of the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) and has chaired several national and international education and training committees. His clinical and educational work reflects a particular interest in integrating reconstructive surgical expertise with structured training and the development of future reconstructive urologists. 

Krishnan Venkatesan, MD is Director of Urologic Reconstruction at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

His practice focuses on complex reconstructive urology and disorders of the urethra and lower urinary tract, including urethral reconstruction, urologic trauma, urinary fistulae, urinary incontinence and neurogenic bladder.

Dr Venkatesan undertook extensive international specialist training in reconstructive urology. He was a Clinical Fellow in Genitourinary Reconstruction at the Institute of Urology, University College London Hospitals, completed further fellowship training in urethral reconstruction at the Kulkarni Institute for Urethral Reconstruction in Pune, India, and undertook visiting fellowship training at the Sava Perovic Foundation in Belgrade, Serbia.

This international training has given him broad exposure to different approaches to urethral and genitourinary reconstruction. He is also actively involved in surgical education and the development of reconstructive urology practice.

Margit Fisch, MD, FEAPU, FEBU is Director of the Department of Urology and Pediatric Urology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and Professor of Urology at the University of Hamburg.

She is internationally recognised for her expertise in reconstructive urology, particularly urethral reconstruction, complex urinary diversion and paediatric urology. Her longstanding work in complex lower urinary tract reconstruction includes the development and refinement of urinary diversion techniques. Her habilitation research focused on optimisation ofureterosigmoidostomy and development of the sigmoid rectum pouch.

Professor Fisch’s career combines complex reconstructive practice with academic leadership, surgical education and specialist training. She served as President of the German Society of Urology (DGU) in 2021–2022, becoming the first woman to lead the society. She has also served as President of the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) and of the European Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons. In 2023, she was awarded the Maximilian Nitze Medal, the DGU’s highest distinction for outstanding service to urology.

Mariya Dragova, MSc, RGN is a Senior Trainer at the Advanced Urinary Catheterisation Academy (AUCA) with extensive experience in urological nursing, practical skills education and advanced urinary catheterisation.

She has contributed significantly to the development and implementation of safer catheterisation practice through clinical research, presentations, publications and competency-based teaching. Her work has included guidewire-assisted catheterisation, difficult re-catheterisation, urethral catheterisation injury prevention and the development and implementation of the Advanced Male Urethral Catheterisation (AMUC) course.

Mariya also has a particular interest and expertise in clinical filming. She regularly supports the recording of reconstructive urological procedures for surgical education and plays an important role in the audiovisual delivery of GURS-Masterclass surgical teaching, including live reconstructive surgery.

Her commitment to education was recognised with the 2024 UCLH Award for Nursing Excellence – Education.
