The 20th GURS-Masterclass, taking place online from 28–30 October 2026, brings together a distinguished international faculty for three days of advanced education in reconstructive urology and urethral-injury prevention.

Dear GURS friends and colleagues,

Welcome to the 20th GURS-Masterclass, taking place online from 28–30 October 2026.

Over three days, a distinguished international faculty of reconstructive urologists will bring together focused lectures, semi-live surgical demonstrations, two live reconstructive operations, case-based forums, expert panel discussions and live audience Q&A.

Day 1 explores advanced reconstructive principles through adult hypospadias revision, rare Cowper’s gland pathology and complex iatrogenic urethral injury following prostate treatment, combining focused lectures with semi-live operative demonstrations.

Day 2 is dedicated to recurrent urethral stricture disease following previous endoscopic treatment or open urethral reconstruction. Two live redo operations will be accompanied by continuous studio moderation, expert commentary at key decision points and active audience participation.

Day 3, held in association with the AUCA Conference, turns from treating complex injury to preventing avoidable harm. The programme addresses catheterisation safety, escalation pathways, early recognition and management of injury, human factors, incident reporting and professional accountability. The afternoon focuses on translating these principles into practice through structured training, e-learning, competency assessment, governance and a semi-live demonstration of catheterisation skills training for junior doctors.

Throughout the Masterclass, we will explore not only how to operate, but how to select the appropriate procedure, recognise failure, manage complications and prevent avoidable harm. Advanced reconstructive principles will be brought to life through operative demonstration, open faculty discussion, critical case analysis and active audience participation.

Aims

The objectives of the GURS-Masterclass are to:

  1. Present contemporary evidence and advanced principles in congenital, iatrogenic, idiopathic and recurrent urethral stricture disease.
  2. Demonstrate operative techniques and intra-operative decision-making through live and semi-live reconstructive surgery.
  3. Develop clinical judgement through case-based forums, expert panel discussions and live audience Q&A.
  4. Promote the prevention of iatrogenic urethral injury through practical education, system learning and professional accountability.
  5. Strengthen international collaboration and support the continuing development of reconstructive urologists and the wider multidisciplinary team.

By integrating evidence, surgical application and critical discussion, the GURS-Masterclass aims to advance reconstructive practice, improve patient safety and inspire the next generation.
