Advanced Male Urethral Catheterisation Course

The objective of the advanced male urethral catheterisation (AMUC) training course is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge base and practical skills to confidently manage challenging and difficult cases independently, employing advanced urethral catheterisation techniques.

Description

For healthcare professionals such as doctors and nurses who already possess knowledge of standard urethral catheterisation and wish to enhance their skills in managing challenging male urethral catheterisation cases, we offer a comprehensive 4-hour hands-on training session. This session provides individualised instruction with experienced trainers and ample opportunities to practice on a simulated model, enabling participants to gain confidence in advanced catheterisation techniques, including the UCD-catheterisation technique.

Prior to attending the practical session, delegates are required to complete a series of e-learning modules. These modules cover various topics, ranging from basic anatomy to step-by-step procedure guidance, along with valuable tips and troubleshooting advice. The estimated time for completing the e-learning course is approximately 3 hours.

Upon registration, delegates will receive a link to access the Advanced Urinary Catheterisation Academy (AUCA) Thinkific platform, where they can enroll and complete the e-learning course. Additionally, the AUCA Community within the Thinkific platform allows delegates to engage in discussions with tutors and fellow participants who have successfully finished the course.

We want to assure you that while Thinkific is an external platform, the course website is administered by AUCA staff. Hence, your personal information will never be shared with any external marketing entities.

Upon completion of the e-learning course, participants will receive a certificate. It is necessary to present this certificate on the day of the practical session, so please ensure that you have it readily available on your mobile device or as a printed copy.

Aims

The primary goals of this training course are as follows:

  1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the objectives of a safe male urethral catheterisation algorithm.
  2. Develop the ability to identify situations where the placement of a standard Foley catheter should be abandoned.
  3. Acquire hands-on experience in practicing second-line catheterisation techniques using a simulated model.
  4. Learn to identify patients who would benefit from the involvement of a Urology specialist.

By achieving these aims, participants will enhance their proficiency in managing difficult male urethral catheterisation cases and gain the confidence to handle such scenarios independently.

Prerequisites

Healthcare professionals who register for this course have prior familiarity with standard urethral catheterisation and have successfully completed the e-learning component.
